Digital world descending into erasure
A Call to Preserve Free Speech and Knowledge
I’m raising my voice because our First Amendment rights and the free flow of information are under threat. Between the erosion of civil liberties under Trump-aligned “MAGA” politics aka literal Nazis, relentless corporate profiteering, and the tsunami of disinformation (now amplified by AI and the attacks on public education), we’re staring down a perfect storm.
Why It Matters, why should we care? What happened you down already
Free Speech Is Fragile. When one ideology monopolizes power—whether through legislation or online censorship—everyone loses.
Capitalist Overreach. Big tech and media conglomerates prioritize profit over truth, driving sensationalism and bias.
Disinformation & AI. Automated bots and deepfakes flood our feeds with lies, making it ever harder to separate fact from fiction.
What You Can Do
Archive the Web. Use tools like webrecorder or the PyWB suite to capture and save live webpages.
Save Articles as PDFs. In your browser, print to PDF—or use a CLI tool like wget or curl—to keep your own local copies.
Backup Videos Locally. Tools like yt-dlp or other YouTube downloaders let you archive talks, interviews, or news clips before they disappear.
Resources for Non-Techies
Browser extensions for one-click PDF saving
Desktop clients with graphical interfaces (e.g., Webrecorder Desktop)
Simple tutorials on using wget and yt-dlp
Why It’s Urgent
I may be casting my words into the void, but someone needs to sound the alarm: once content is taken down—or algorithms bury it—it may vanish forever. I’m 30 years old, and I can’t shake the feeling that future generations will look back and wonder why we didn’t act sooner. We may not have a huge audience yet, but every saved article, every archived video, and every fact-checked post builds our collective resistance.
Let’s protect our right to know—and our right to share—before it’s too late.
