More Specific....
As an ethical matter, I consider it important to discuss the issue of not extending the principle of equality to other (nonhuman) animals. In the United States and around the world, we still fail miserably to extend this principle to people of color, the disabled, women, and others.
But in this lens, we still miss the point...
In this framework being vegan becomes so much more than what the average Joe thinks it is. At the risk of running the no true Scotts man fallacy, most people don't understand what veganism is and how it pertains to philosophy, not a diet. Veganism is all-encompassing compassion & the rights for all bodily autonomy or all living animals.
